    During the Italian President Giorgio Napolitano's visit  to Syria, First Lady "Asma Al-Assad" visit with Clio Napolitano, wife of Italian President Napolitano, the works in progress in Damascus Citadel, and the Mosaics Exhibition.

This project represents a segment of an integral strategy General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums.
 
       This project forms the bases which contribute to the advancement of the abilities of the General Directorate of Antiquities and  Museum Staff, and the preservation of the rich historical heritage in Syria, and improve their skills in order to restructure the national museum based on the most up-to-date international models; which is related to the management and artifacts layout.
 
      In addition to the services and skills the staff offers, and propose practical suggestion to develop a culture and communal center in Damascus Citadel that is linked to historical Damascus centers in order to support the damaged buildings.

 

 

The Training Program Consists of Archaeological Restoration According to the Following Specialties:

   In addition to the analytical practical specialties that reinforce the restoration process.
The training program will be accomplish in cooperation between Beat Al Khebrah Corporation for Consulting & Training
& Italian research center CNR- ISTEC ,that specializes in training archaeological
restoration on behalf of Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museum.

The project of the training courses in conservation was launched during the workshop held on Tuesday 9/6/2009 in the
 National Museum of Damascus,  in the presence the overseer of the Training project
(Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museum, Beat Al Khebrah Corporation, Italy CNR),
and various invites ,in the presence of the apprentices that have been chosen with great care by the commission representing
 DGAM, based on specific standards, that fits with the needs of Directorates, with a total of 35 apprentices from all the over the
 regions of Syria, were distributed on all the analytical practical restoration specialties in the program in order to benefits in the
 future from their work in the restoration laboratories.

The duration of the program is 11 month based on the following principle stages:

•  The theoretical part: it includes the basic sciences, which are going to be presented by the Syrian experts,
and the specialized sciences, which are going to be covered by the Italian experts.

• The practical part: which is going to be covered by the Italian experts in the new laboratories,
which will be equipped with modern instruments to achieve the training according to the modern scientific basis.

• The final part is going to be carried out on sites or in the museum, where the restorers
will be trained on the various restoration and conservation methods on the artifacts displayed or stored in the
storehouse are going to represent the study cases in the particular environment for each exhibited artifacts.
There is going to be an exposition of the restored artifacts which was completed during the training program,
and a workshop to discuss the results attained; in addition the trainees will be awarded an international diploma in
restoration by Italy CNR Institution.
